Club Mission:
MAST is a community; as such, the responsibility to introduce new students into the fold is not just that of the staff, but of everyone. Some may view the start of a new school, as a challenge, or even thrilling, however, the common emotion is fear. Children starting 6th grade have just left the comfort and security of their elementary schools, in which every activity was controlled and actions monitored. A mere 2 1/2 months later, they are thrust in the independent world of MAST Academy. This change can be traumatic for some children, and paralyzing for others. The mental wellness of these blossoming adolescents is just as imperative as the intellectual strength and physical education they are expected to receive; however, they are NOT alone. Along with the staff, these new enrollees would have the support and guidance from their fellow classmates, and more so, from their experienced upperclassmen. MAST Buddies is compromised of high school students dedicated to promoting positivity and aiding new students in acclimating to their environment. The program would help navigate the vigorous waters of transitioning into a high school environment and help guide these students in fulfilling their academic goals and aspirations. By being their mentor, we will guide and assist them in any way we can.
Annual Plan of Action
-Spread positivity
-Create a safer and more comfortable environment
-Peer-to-peer mentoring (middle schoolers by high schoolers)

Yoga and Wellness represents four different aspects: Yoga, General Health, Mental Health Awareness, and Community Service.
The purpose of this Yoga and Wellness is to create a community that promotes an informed and mindful mentality and balanced body. Yoga and Wellness aims to be a club for students of all interests and has a strong focus on volunteer service, mental well being, community health, and a profound appreciation for life.
The Yoga aspect strives to explore and embrace a more reflective and relaxed consciousness through a series of meditation and physical exercises. By thriving on the art of letting go and valuing the importance of the present moment, Yoga aspect hopes to cultivate inner strength and a profound appreciation for life.
The General Health aspect strives to provide students with health information through seminars, visitors, and materials that will be helpful for any medical careers they may aspire to pursue. Through activities such as Health Fair, Health aspect provides MAST students with the opportunity to learn about the medical field and general health.
The Mental Health aspect provides students with a safe environment to approach mental health issues for awareness. This is done through key speakers, HIP, school activities, etc.
The Community Service aspect helps coordinate the club’s community service activities and reaches out to the Red Cross and other local non-profit organizations for certain community projects and volunteer opportunities.

What are the National Art Honor Societies?
Since 1978, the National Art Honor Society Programs support student members in their efforts to attain the highest standards in art scholarship, character, and service. The National Art Honor Society (NAHS) or National Junior Art Honor Society (NJAHS) are more than “art clubs.” Students are required to meet eligibility criteria for membership as detailed in your chapter’s constitution and bylaws.
Make Our Chapter Shine!
1. Keep a current display of artwork in the art room, hallways, library, and principal’s office.
2. Sponsor art shows, including middle, high school students and parents.
3. Arrange for guest speakers or artists to visit art classes or classes in other subject areas.
4. Contact local businesses concerned with art (such as print shops, television art studios, newspapers, advertising studios, display studios in stores, etc.) and arrange for tours for your chapter.
5. Sponsor creative writing and art projects.
For example:
• Publish a booklet/calendar with art and poetry.
• Put art in the English room for the class to use as inspiration for haiku verse, creative writing, etc.
• Use creative writing from the English class to inspire artwork. Exhibit the results.
6. Sponsor field trips to galleries, museums, etc.
7. Disseminate career information.
8. Plan a sketching session in the community as an afterschool or weekend activity.
9. Plan an opening reception for school art exhibits. Ask for school newspaper coverage.
10. Have a regular column in the school newspaper or PTA newsletter concerning chapter activities. The chapter sponsor can submit news to NAHS News.
11. Create a website for your chapter.
By-Laws
Section 1. A chapter should include bylaws to amplify sections of its constitution. Bylaws do not need to be approved by the National Council if they are consistent with regulations outlined in the constitution. A current copy of the local chapter bylaws must be filed with NAEA.
Section 2. To remain a member in good standing, a member must pay dues and complete 30 service hours in the visual arts each year. (You may adjust the number of hours to fit your school or community needs.)
Section 3. Annual dues of $ 5 will be collected from each member. (The amount you charge should cover chapter registration fees and any other expenses you expect to incur).
Section 4. Attendance is required at meetings to maintain membership and privileges. (You may set the number that may be missed with cause or adjust the meeting frequency to fit your school’s schedule.)
Section 5. All members must participate in 4 of our projects, activities, and fundraisers. (You set the number or percentage of events required.)
Section 6. For the NAHS and NJAHS officers, attendance is also required at any executive meetings called outside of the regularly scheduled meetings.
Section 7. To graduate with NAHS honors and earn the right to wear a cord, pin, or tassel at graduation, a member must remain in good standing until the graduation date.
Section 8. Members must retain a 3.5 average in an honors or AP class or 3.0 in a regular class. (Many schools require a higher GPA in art classes than the B required by the National Constitution. You may adjust the requirement or leave it at the required B average.)
Section 9. Members must have and maintain a 3.0 cumulative average in all other subjects. (Many schools require an overall minimum GPA. This change is not required, and the required minimum should not be as high as the art GPA.)
Section 10. Members may remain active during such time when there are no visual arts on their class schedules as long as they fulfill all the other requirement s each year.
Section 11. In the event of an infraction of rules, a review by the officers and sponsors will be conducted. If the individual in question is an officer, he/she will not participate in the decision-making process. This applies to all community laws as well as school and chapter rules.

NOSB stands for National Oceans Sciences Bowl, and as the name implies, it is a national brain bowl on ocean science. MAST has been competing in it for many years now, and there are many trophies acquired from the competition scattered across the school. We compete annually in the Spoonbill Bowl, which is the Florida regional bowl.
It is open to anyone who has even the slightest interest in ocean science.
Our practices are held every Tuesday in Ms. Jimenez's room (37) until around 5:00, though there is no requirement for the time you must spend.
Practices will increase in frequency and time as we get closer to the date of the competition.

We accept all who have a love and talent for the arts and a drive to develop as a performer.
Monthly club meetings after school are scheduled on the last Wednesday of the month in Mr. Gomez's room (Building 5, Floor 4, Room 5425). Fundraising, showcases, and other school events that feature the club will happen throughout the year. Members should attend and participate regularly, as you are able.

The Miami Herald Silver Knight Awards is one of the nation’s most highly regarded student awards programs. The purpose of this Awards program is to recognize outstanding students who have not only maintained good grades but have also unselfishly applied their special knowledge and talents to contribute significant service to their schools and communities. The Silver Knight Awards program was instituted at the Miami Herald in 1959 by John S. Knight, past publisher of the Miami Herald, founder and editor emeritus of Knight-Ridder Newspapers and 1968 Pulitzer Prize winner.
The program is open to high school seniors with a minimum 3.2 GPA (unweighted) in public, private, and parochial schools in Miami-Dade and Broward counties. Students may be nominated in 15 categories: Art, Athletics, Business, Drama, English & Literature, General Scholarship, Journalism, Mathematics, Music and Dance, New Media, Science, Social Science, Speech, Vocational-Technical and World Languages. Each school may nominate one student per category.
Nominees from all schools appear on a designated day to be interviewed by a panel of independent judges. Each panel of judges selects one Silver Knight and three Honorable Mentions in that category. Names are not revealed until the Silver Knight Awards ceremony. Silver Knights receive $2,000, a Silver Knight statue and a medallion presented by American Airlines. The three Honorable Mentions are presented $500 and an engraved plaque.

The Law Club gives students at MAST Academy a chance to learn the fundamentals of law more in depth than any class. Students will gain knowledge that will help them pursue a career in law and will know and understand their rights.
The purpose of this club is to help students understand and experience law. Many students do not know the laws of their city, state or even the federal government. We strive here to educate students about the laws of where they live and why these laws are important to learn. Our entire democracy is built on the solid basis of law and we need to understand why we should learn and experience this.
The Law Club also welcomes students who would like to have a career in law. We will analyze each step in law and the legal system and different crimes using court cases. To see why these are important we will analyze important supreme court cases such as Brown v. Board of Education. And to gain experience of making court decisions and defending people in court we will hold mock trials. In addition, we also want to apply the law through community service and to challenge our members to care about that knowledge. The Law Club was established as the dream of three 7th grade students Enzo Foquet and Neil Kumar and Kush Kumar. We are inspired to educate everyone to take a stand and not just to learn about law. We also want to take a stand in our own community by volunteering to educate others about the law and striving to help other less fortunate than us.
Membership Requirements:
Any person from grades 6-12 may join the club. Membership will not violate federal laws and will be open to people of any race, gender, disability, or any other border that might separate people. Membership and benefits will not be influenced due to these factors. Teachers and Parents are welcome to join to help aid us in studying law and giving donations but, may not hold any offices. Membership will be terminated if the rules of the club are violated. The rules are listed below:
• No disrespecting any member of the club
• No discrimination against any member of the club
• No misconduct during the club or against club members
• You must attend at least one mock trial a semester
• No destruction of property
Violation of these rules will result in being suspended or expelled from the club. The officers of the club will meet together to decide the punishment of disobeying one of these rules. If an officer breaks these rules that officer will automatically be suspended and may not run for office or hold an office
We meet every Wednesday at 3:05 to 4:15 unless there is no school or the meeting is canceled in advance.
