Summer Youth Internship Program

If you are interested in applying to be part of the SYIP for the 20245 Summer Term, please complete the steps listed within the 2025 SYIP MAST Instructions. Decisions regarding acceptance will be made by the M-DCPS CTE Department in late May. The program and/or its acceptance decisions are independent of MAST Academy.

SYIP is a five-week work-based learning experience between M-DCPS high school students and businesses and organizations throughout Miami-Dade County. The Children’s Trust, Miami-Dade County, CareerSource South Florida, EdFed – The Educational Federal Credit Union, and the Foundation for New Education Initiatives are the sponsoring organizations.

  • oAll students who enroll and meet the eligibility requirements will have the opportunity to earn a $1500 stipend for 150 hours of work during the internship, if accepted into the program.
  •  All students who successfully complete the internship program will receive high school academic credit and may also be eligible to receive dual enrollment credit through Miami Dade College (MDC).
  • Internships can be in-person, virtual, or hybrid. Internship host sites must be in compliance with current CDC and local health and safety guidelines.
  • SYIP is open to rising 10th through 12th grade high school students between the ages of 15-18 who are currently enrolled in Miami-Dade County Public or Charter Schools.
  • Students must be eligible to work in the US and a resident of Miami-Dade County. Students must be 15 years of age by July 1, 2025.
  • Priority will be given to at-risk students who meet one of the following criteria:
  • Free/Reduced Lunch
  • English Language Learners (ELL)
  • Truant (15 or more unexcused absences)

You are required to follow each of these steps to be processed for this program. If you do not follow all of the steps below you will not be considered for the program.

Please note that completion of the steps below does not guarantee you will be accepted into the program.

March 6 – 2nd Lunch Block Informational Meeting for interested students.

March 6- Ed Fed will be at MAST opening bank accounts. You will need to bring your required documents to open your account. 

March 12- Last day to complete the MAST Interest Survey  https://forms.office.com/r/VdQxARGveJ 

** You will be added to a Schoology Group to begin completing your coursework and required materials. 

 May 9 –Last day to have opened an EdFed credit union account. 

May 9- Last day to complete Florida Ready to Work coursework.

May 9- Last day to submit all required forms and paperwork.
